The payout goes to over 2,500 government, private & mission healthcare facilities
The Social Health Authority (SHA) has paid off more than Ksh11 billion in reimbursement claims to 2,588 healthcare facilities across the country.
In a facilities payment analysis document published on its website, the authority listed several categories of healthcare facilities including government, private and mission hospitals which had received a total of Ksh11,387,099,327 for the period between December 3, 2024, and February 3, 2025.
This announcement comes barely a week since the Ministry of Health stated that SHA had collected Ksh20.9 billion since its launch in October 2024 and paid off Ksh18.2 billion in hospital claims.
In the analysis published on its website, SHA indicated that Kenyatta National Hospital (general wing) received the highest amount in reimbursement at Ksh379,837,249. But in a curious twist of events, the six lowest paid hospitals received only Ksh225 each from SHA, these including Wanzua Dispensary, Wenje Dispensary and West Kenya Diagnostic and Imaging Centre.

Facilities in Nairobi County received the highest reimbursement amount at Ksh2,226,435,866 followed by facilities in Uasin Gishu county (Ksh710,675,339) and those in Kisii county (Ksh646,790,866), while facilities in Samburu county received the lowest reimbursement amount at Ksh5,121,340.

In the government hospitals category, Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) was among the highest paid hospitals, receiving a reimbursement of Ksh379,837,249 followed by the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (Ksh345,110,305) and the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) at Ksh258,055,918.

Out of the top-10 highest paid private hospitals, seven were in Nairobi, topped by the Nairobi West Hospital which received a reimbursement of Ksh129,273,579. It was followed by two Level 4 hospitals – Meru Doctors Plaza Ltd which received Ksh73,585,962 and Ladnan Hospital which received Ksh66,366,870.

In the Mission Hospitals category, AIC Kijabe Hospital in Kiambu County received the highest payout at Ksh122,767,559. This was followed by North Kinangop Catholic Hospital and Consolata Hospital Mathari.
