Step 1: Log in to Your SHA Profile
- Open your SHA profile and log in.
- Under your profile, go to the Income section.
- Select Self-employed as your employment type. This means you don’t have an employer name or carrier PIN, making you eligible for Means Testing.
Step 2: Navigate to the Means Testing section
- After logging in, go to the Home page.
- Under Home, find and select the Means Testing option.
- Click on Start Means Testing to proceed.
Step 3: Answer the Household Information Questions
Household Head’s Education:
- You will first be asked about the highest form of education for the head of the household.
- Choose the option that best matches your level of education (e.g., Mid-level college).
Household Characteristics:
- Indicate the number of people living with you by answering the question: How many dependents spent the previous night in the home?
- Gender of the household head: Select Male or Female.
- Does the household head have a source of income? Select Yes or No.
Marital Status:
- Choose your marital status from the following options: married (monogamous), polygamous, living together, separated, divorced, widowed, or never married.
Dwelling Type and Ownership:
- What type of dwelling is the household? Choose between bungalow, flat, mansion, swahili-style house, shanty, or another type of home.
- How many bedrooms does the house have? Enter the number of rooms used for sleeping.
- Do you own or rent your home? Choose Own or Rent.
- What is the predominant roofing material? Options include iron sheets, tiles, asbestos, concrete, etc.
Housing Materials:
- Wall material: Choose from options like concrete, brick, wood planks, etc.
- Flooring material: Choose from options like ceramic tiles, wall-to-wall carpet, etc.
Step 4: Additional Household Information:
Water and Toilet Facilities:
- What is your source of drinking water? Options include piped water, bottled water, borehole, well, or rain harvested water.
- Do you share toilet facilities with other households? Select Yes or No.
- What is the main method of waste disposal? Choose from sewer line, septic tank, pit latrine, etc.
Energy Sources:
- What is the main source of cooking energy? Options include electricity, charcoal, wood, lpg, biogas, etc.
- What is your primary source of lighting? Choose electricity, solar, or other options.
Step 5: Household Items and Assets
Household Items Ownership:
Do you own any of the following items? Check as many as apply:
- Radio
- TV
- Smartphone
- Laptop
- Refrigerator
- Desktop Computer
- Tablet
Vehicles and Livestock Ownership:
Do you own any of the following?
- Motorcycle
- Car
- Pickup Truck
- Livestock (Cattle, Poultry, Sheep, Goats, etc.)
Step 6: Government Assistance and Land Ownership
Do you receive any assistance? Check any relevant sources:
- National Government
- County Government
- NGOs
- Relatives or Friends
- How much land do you own? Specify the size of land owned by your household.
- How much of this land is used for agricultural activities? Indicate the size of land used.
Step 7: Additional Information
- What is your average monthly airtime usage? Enter an estimate of your monthly airtime usage.
- How much money do you transact per month? Provide an estimate based on your M-Pesa or bank transactions.
Step 8: Declaration
- You will be asked to attest that all information provided is true and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
- Authorize SHA to validate the data for legitimate purposes.
Step 9: Submit Your Information
- Review your answers to ensure all details are correct.
- Once you’re satisfied, click Submit.
Step 10: Review Your Premium Calculation
- After submission, the system will calculate your monthly and annual premiums based on the information you provided.
- For example, your monthly premium could be Ksh600, translating to an annual payment of Ksh7,200.
Step 11: Pay Your Premiums
- After completing the Means Testing and reviewing your premium, you will be directed to pay your premiums.
