Position Summary:
To support the design, implementation, and monitoring of impactful health journalism programs at Willow Health Media in resource mobilisation efforts through donor engagement, proposal writing, and partnership development. The role also includes day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with donor and regulatory requirements to promote transparency, accountability, and sustainability of Willow Health Media’s mission. 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Management & Implementation
  • Collaborate with teams in Administration and Editorial to plan and implement Willow’s media, advocacy, and public engagement projects.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams—including editorial staff, content creators, researchers, health experts, and field teams—to ensure seamless program delivery.
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager to meet reporting timelines, prepare project budgets, and fulfil all financial and accounting requirements.
  • Monitor and evaluate program activities and outcomes to ensure alignment with organisational goals and impact metrics.
  • Prepare and compile timely program reports for the Board, donors, and stakeholders (monthly, quarterly, or annually), in collaboration with the Finance Manager.

2. Strategic Development

  • Contribute to the development of program strategies, health journalism frameworks, and annual work plans.
  • Identify opportunities to scale and enhance Willow Health Media’s programming footprint and influence.
  • Stay abreast of developments in public health, digital media, storytelling innovation, and community engagement.

3. Resource Mobilisation

  • Assist leadership in designing and implementing a sustainable resource mobilisation strategy that includes donor funding, earned income, and in-kind support.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Manager to research, draft, and submit compelling funding proposals, grant applications, and concept notes.
  • Support the cultivation and maintenance of relationships with donors, development partners, and philanthropic institutions.
  • Track fundraising opportunities and coordinate internal alignment with donor requirements, timelines, and reporting obligations.

4. Accounting & Financial Support

  • Maintain accurate accounting records for programs and projects in collaboration with the Finance Manager.
  • Ensure adherence to donor budgets, approved expenditures, and internal financial procedures.
  • Participate in the preparation of financial reports, donor audits, and project close-outs.
  • Support monthly reconciliations, expense tracking, and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

5. Partnerships & External Engagement

  • Represent Willow Health Media at stakeholder meetings, conferences, and strategic forums.
  • Build and manage partnerships with civil society organisations, government agencies, and media platforms.
  • Advocate for Willow’s work and contribute to building the organisation’s visibility and credibility.

6. Donor Relations & Compliance

  • Serve as a key contact for donor queries and relationship management.
  • Ensure donor branding, visibility, and procurement processes meet agreed-upon guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Operations teams to maintain documentation, manage grant files, and facilitate external audits and reviews.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in public health, Media, Communications, Development Studies, Business, Accounting, or a related field. A Masters degree in a related field is an added advantage.
  • Experience: At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in program implementation, fundraising, and accounting/finance in a non-profit or media environment.
  • Strong understanding of donor landscapes (foundations, bilateral/multilateral agencies, corporate CSR, etc.).
  • Proficiency in budgeting, financial reporting, and use of accounting software.
  • Exceptional writing, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and managing multiple projects.
